Last nights run seemed a lot easier. My time was almost identical to what I ran on Tuesday, but I never felt the urge to stop this time. I did slow my pace down quite a bit a few times, but never stopped to walk. My 1st mile time wasn't quite as fast either, which Im sure helped. I also ran a different route.
I started out the same way, by running down Thrift, but instead of turning for Trentdale, I turned right and then only Dale Blvd. I did the same loop around the townhouses, then continued down Dale Blvd until my distance read 1.2 miles. Then I turned and ran back, did two loops around the townhouse parking lot, then ran up the hill back into the neighborhood. I hit 28 mins and 2.5 miles while I was down by N2BCHIN's house.
I downloaded the Bridge to 10K app on my phone. I'm tempted to skip the final week of Couch to 5K, and just start week 1 of that. It starts out with 10 minutes of running, 1 minute of walking and repeat that 4 times. 40 minutes of running seems like a lot, but I think with those 1 minute breaks, I will be able to do it. I will finish the C25K week 9 though. I want to say I completed it.
I went back and looked over my runs and I realized I must have skipped a few weeks. I only started running 2 days a week about 6 weeks ago. So Im like 2-3 weeks ahead.

An online journal of my training and progress on working my way from a couch potato to running a 5K and hopefully beyond!

Last nights run was a bit of a bittersweet event. I ran my fastest 1 mile with a time of 10:32. The bad part was that I started out way too quick and had to walk about 18 minutes into my run. I only walked for about 90 seconds, but it's the first time I had to walk in 2 weeks. I ended up running 2.5 miles in the 28 minute timeframe. Slightly better than my Sunday run.
The weather was unusual tonight. We had thunderstorms roll through around 5PM. When I ran around 8:30, the storms had passed us, but there was still a bit of a heaviness to the air and an old smell in the air. Not sure what the smell was.
I did the same route I did the other night. Something I realized is that most of the first mile is uphill. I think that is why I often struggle with my first mile and finish strong with my 2nd mile. I'm thinking of reversing my route on Thursday to see how things go. See if it makes any difference. It may just be a mental thing.
I finished my last two runs so easily, so it was discouraging to me that I struggled so much with Tuesday run. We'll see how things go on Thursday. Going to try to pace myself a little better. I like that feeling of finishing with a lot left in my tank. I hate when I run and keep looking at my phone to see how much time I have left.
I saw Dr. Page and got a clean bill of health. My triglycerides were a little high, but everything else was pretty good. Im sure by exercising more, my numbers may get even better. I weighed in at the doctors at 146 pounds. When I visited Dr. Page in January I weighed in at 157 pounds. 157 was probably partially do to wearing heavier clothes, but I feel like I've lost a legitimate 5 pounds or so since I started running. Would love to get down to around 140. Going to continue to drink lots of water at work, cut out the sugary cereal like Fruity Pebbles and keep up with running 3 days a week.
As far as cross training, not sure what to do there. I enjoy riding my bike, but as the days gets shorter, I get a little concerned riding at night. So Im thinking of doing more light lifting and maybe P90X.

So I ran again last night by "listening to my body". Tonights run caps off week 8 of the couch to 5k program. I also ran in my new Asics running shoes.
I increased my running duration from 25 minutes to 28 minutes since I am now in week 8. Again, I felt really loose and good while running. The weather was cooler than it has been, so it was a good night to run. I finished the first mile in 11:30 minutes. I then continued to run down Dale Blvd and did a loop down by the townhouses (Trident Lane). The cool thing about running through here was that there were speed bumps. So I jumped over the speed bumps as I ran through. Kind of imagined like I was doing the fire jump at the Warrior Dash.
I finished the 2nd mile in 11:19. Slightly faster than mile 1, and a bit quicker overall than my pace last Thursday. The last hill when I came up Tango was tough, but I feel like I ran it a lot quicker than I have been. When my Nike+ app told me I was finished, I was pleasantly surprised. I felt like I had "a lot more in the tank". I'm very confident I can finish a 5K now. Want to get my distance up to 4-5 miles so I can be confident that I can finish a Warrior Dash type race.
One other thing, I have been trying to drink a lot of water thanks to Mio. I squeeze a little of the Mio into a cup of water and pour it over some ice. So far I've tried the Peach tea and Sweet tea flavors. The peach tea is really good. The Sweet tea is a little too sweet.
Mile 1 11:30
Mile 2 11:19
Total Distance: 2.48 miles
Average Pace: 11:23
Total Run Time: 28:16
