Hello November...
October was a good month for me. I ran more miles than I had in any previous month. I ran in my first official 5k. I turned 38. And I'm still here to talk about it all. WINNING!
So here is October, by the numbers:
Number of Runs: 11
Time Run: 4 hours 54 minutes
Distance Run: 29 miles (damn, wish I had run 1 more mile to make it an even 30)
Calories Burned: 3061
Average Pace: 10:05. *(since Nike+ is a little off, probably a little below 10:00 per mile, but I'll take it).
What I learned in October is that my body is capable of doing more than I think it can. I struggled badly in the runs before my cold, and I was in a panic that I wouldn't be able to run more than a mile without stopping during my 5K. Well I ran the whole thing without stopping and I finished in under 30 minutes. I didn't think I could run more than 3 miles, and I ended up running 5 miles. I didn't plan on running 5 miles that night, but I was feeling good, and just kept running. Probably could have done another mile, or two, or five maybe.
Now as we enter November, I need to get over my fear and finish a 10K. It doesn't matter if it takes me an hour and 15 minutes, or an hour and 30 minutes for that matter. I just want to finish. The event down at Quantico seems a lot larger than the USPTO 5k, so I need to mentally prepare for that as well. At least it seems like Kerry is on board and willing to run the race with me. So I won't have to run it alone. My challenges will be fear, the cold weather, and not over training. Need to find the right balance to increase my stamina, but not burn myself out.
