On Tuesday Rachel came home and said she had a scratchy throat. I told her to load up on vitamin C, which she did. She came home Wednesday and she was sniffling, sneezing and had a stuffed up nose. Last night she started coughing. I'm so paranoid that I am going to catch her cold. I've been trying to face the window and keep my back to her in bed, but a few times I woke up and I was turned towards her. I guess I turned in my sleep.
With only 9 days left till my 5k, I certainly do not want to get sick. I will have a hard enough time finishing without having to to worry about being sick and congested. My throat feels a little weird today, but maybe it's just me being paranoid. Im loading up on vitamin C anyway. Took 1000 mg with breakfast, and will take 1000 more with lunch.
Last night I ran 2 miles. I was nodding off while Max sat on my lap and played with the iPad. A few minutes later, I was outside and getting ready to run. Big mistake. I hadn't loosened up at all and it was a chilly night with temps in the upper 50's. When I started out, my chest felt all tight and I just couldn't get into a good rhythm. I focussed on my pace, which was way too fast to start. I was running at a 8:30 pace. I slowed myself down to around 10:30 and things began to fall into place. With the fast start, I finished my first mile in 9:58. Normally at this point, I would stop and walk for a minute. But this time, since I had slowed my pace down a bit, I wasn't as winded. So I continued on and finished my 2nd mile all running.I tried to stay on pace for 10:30. I slowed down dramatically at one point down below 11:30, when I started the uphill climb ion Hoadley near the car wash. But I steadied things up as close to 10:30 as I could, and finished my 2nd mile in 10:23. One of the fastest 2 miles I've ever done. If I could compromise and do a 10 minute mile, I will come damn close to my 5K goal of 30 minutes. I finished my 2 miles last night in 20:31.
This last run taught me to try focus on my pace. By pushing too hard, I end up spending too much energy early on and then have nothing left in the tank during mile 3. I think if I can stay between 10:00 and 10:30 per mile that is a pretty comfortable pace.
I also plan on running with Shawn Furr on Tuesday. I think it will be fun to run with someone else and I won't have to worry about running at night in the cold and dark. So Ill probably run on Sunday night, then Tuesday with Shawn and then I'll shut it down till I run my 5K.
